The on-site whisky barn stocks over 160 different whiskies from Scotland, Ireland and Japan, with the host Emiko providing personal tasting guidance from memory. Guests can book a private tasting session in the bar, which opens from 6.30 pm each evening, to sample drams chosen according to their palate. The bar also serves gin and tonics, wine, and homemade Irish coffees, making it a central social space for all guests.

Dining

The on-site restaurant serves a three-course evening dinner that must be pre-ordered in advance, with menus changing regularly and featuring locally sourced ingredients including bacon and lamb from area suppliers. Breakfast includes a full English or Irish cooked-to-order option with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free alternatives, plus homemade bread baked daily by host Emiko. An edible garden on the property supplies homegrown ingredients for meals, and packed lunches are available on request for day trips.

Activities and Location

A private greenway leads directly from the back door of The Wayside and Whisky Barn to the summit of Black Combe, one of the highest fells in the western Lake District. Wast Water, the deepest lake in England, is located a short drive away, and the coast path and Silecroft beach are within walking distance. Canoeing, fishing, windsurfing and cycling are all available in the surrounding area, with the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway providing access to Eskdale Valley.

Dogs are allowed in certain rooms and receive treats on arrival, with the Annex having an enclosed garden for pets to run.
